Simple Green Future is an independent, open-source sustainable living initiative founded in Belgium in 2024. The project focuses on designing and building a fully off-grid, circular micro-resort, a functional prototype for regenerative systems and decentralized knowledge sharing.
It operates under the principle of “building without permission”, meaning we follow the law, but not the mindset and decision-making models that governments often impose. Instead, we offer practical alternatives to conventional housing, energy, food, and waste systems. All of this works in tandem with nature: nature helps us, and we help nature. The model is open, adaptable, and designed to be replicated across different climates and regions.
Origins & Approach
The project began with a small international team of sustainability practitioners, engineers, and independent thinkers, all disillusioned by bureaucracy, greenwashing, and institutional inaction.
Drawing on backgrounds ranging from luxury design to grassroots permaculture, we committed to building something tangible, independent, and accessible to everyone.
The first physical prototype is now in development in rural Belgium.
Key Focus Areas
Simple Green Future is built around five core pillars:
• Closed-loop energy, combining solar, thermal, passive natural sources, and water recovery, starting with 3-stage greywater filtration and a natural micro-loop for drinking water.
• Circular food production
, small-scale farming, composting, and seasonal cycles, integrated into the water recovery and soil regeneration systems.
• Zero-waste design, recycled and modular materials guided by cradle-to-cradle logic. Organic waste is turned into energy through natural biocycle systems.
• Open-source learning, on-site training and publicly shared guides. Touch, feel, learn. No brochures. No corporate manuals.
• Adaptability, scalable for different regions, climates, and cultures.
This is not a think tank. Not a startup. Not a resort. It’s a working model — something you can walk through, learn from, and eventually build yourself.
Legal & Funding Model
Simple Green Future is currently in the process of registering as a non-profit association (vzw) under Belgian law. It remains fully independent from corporate sponsors or commercial investors.
We aim to protect the integrity of the prototype and our principles as much as possible. Sustainable living must remain independent, people deserve the right to choose, not just the illusion of choice.
Funding comes from:
• Small public donations • Community contributions • Occasional private support
This ensures the project stays mission-aligned, transparent, and people-powered.
Next Steps
Phase 1 (2024–2025) includes:
• Off-grid infrastructure • Circular food and water systems • Basic regenerative housing • Hands-on community learning
Next: we’ll publish full documentation, build guides, and system blueprints, so anyone, anywhere, can replicate and adapt the model.
