Billion scam in Belgium

The Nationalization Trap: Buying a Billion-Euro Anchor

The news is official: The Belgian government is moving to nationalize the nuclear fleet. They are calling it “Energy Sovereignty.”

As an engineer, I call it The Ultimate Chaos Tax. Before you celebrate “stable prices,” look at the physics and the math. This isn’t just a political shift; it is a massive transfer of liability from a private corporation to your pocket.

1. Buying the “Exhausted” System The reactors at Doel and Tihange aren’t just “old”; they are technically fatigued. For years, we’ve seen reports of hydrogen flakes (micro-cracks) in the reactor pressure vessels. The Reality: These “miracles” of engineering have spent a decade plagued by unplanned outages and technical failures.

The Scam: By nationalizing, Engie gets to walk away from the €8.7 Billion+ dismantling debt and waste management liability. The government is buying a house that’s already falling down and promising you it’s a palace.

2. The “Restart” Mirage Stopping the decommissioning of Doel 3 and Tihange 2 mid-way is a logistical nightmare. You cannot simply “re-plug” a nuclear reactor that has begun the shutdown process. The cost of safety audits, structural testing, and regulatory hurdles will cost billions before a single kilowatt is generated.

3. N-VA and the “Money Pit” Politics. This is a “Stealing Scheme” wrapped in a flag. The government is using your tax money to buy a failing asset at full price. Nationalization is never free. You are paying for the takeover. Maintenance is never free. You are paying for the repairs on 50-year-old steel. Waste is never free. You are paying for the next 10,000 years of storage.

The Simple Green Future Verdict While the state spends billions to keep a centralized, cracking “miracle” on life support, they tell you there is no money for your home insulation or energy sovereignty. They want you dependent on a centralized grid that they own, and you paid for twice. Physics doesn’t lie. A system this old, this cracked, and this expensive is not a solution. It’s an anchor.
